Reports from the Void: ‘Sighting of Mothman in Lebanon Hills Regional Park’
Reports from the Void is a repository to share those stories for which we do not have enough information to make a full report. This is usually because of little or no communication from the witness following their initial submission. The Singular Fortean Society will always provide as much information as possible regarding any correspondence during our attempts to speak with those involved.
This series is meant only to present you with the full breadth of the information sent to us and makes no judgments towards the veracity of any stories shared within it.
The Singular Fortean Society received the following email on November 21st, 2022, reporting a “Mothman” sighting in Lebanon Regional Park near Eagan, Minnesota.
This sighting happened back in June/July of 2021, [but] it wasn’t until now after watching Unsolved Mysteries that I have decided to report it. It was a disturbing experience that me and my girlfriend want to forget.
We were in our hammock relaxing in the park in this opening surrounded by pine trees. We got there early in the afternoon, and everything was normal and nothing out of the ordinary; it wasn’t until the sun started to set that we started to hear knocking on wood. It didn’t sound like a woodpecker because it sounded like someone was knocking on a door. [The sound] was repetitive, but it could’ve been some kind of animal because it is a big regional park. We didn’t think too much of it, but we were curious what it was because it was very repetitive, and we felt like we were being watched.
Once night settled, probably around 9 pm, we decided to leave. It was weird, because it was almost as if we had no sense of time and it felt like we just woke up, but we had been awake the whole time. For some reason we didn’t realize it was dark. We both started to have a bad feeling, so we packed up quick and started to head out.
I was ahead of my girlfriend, and at the opening towards the trail I heard something crash through the branches and land on a branch on the pine tree to my right.
I looked up and I saw a black figure that had [the] feet and wings of a bird, almost like an eagle, and the body and head of a man. It maybe stood seven to eight feet tall. I was shocked.
Then it took off and flew away and we both ran to the car and drove out of there as fast as we could. On our way out there was a herd of 10+ deer. I’ve never seen that many deer in that area at once. They all stopped and stared at us, all of them. But I didn’t stop to investigate, I drove right past them out of that park.
There definitely was something paranormal at that park that night that targeted us.
Investigator Tobias Wayland replied to the email in an attempt to interview the witness but received no response.
This isn’t the first report received by The Singular Fortean Society that describes local fauna seemingly reacting to the presence of a winged humanoid.
In 2020, Wayland spoke to two young women who said that they’d seen a large flying humanoid on Thanksgiving night in Oregon, Wisconsin.
The witnesses said they encountered what seemed to be the same creature several times in one specific area.
They both also noticed other unusual phenomena happening that evening, such as deer moving away from the spot where they had seen the creature and unusual interference on the car’s radio.
“This was the weirdest thing that I noticed, it was way earlier, but it counts for the whole night basically. We kept seeing deer crossing the road,” one of the young women said. “I almost ran into two different deer on two different sides of town. Usually, if I see a deer at all, it’s one deer a night. Oregon does not get a lot of deer, and I saw over seven deer that night. And we saw a whole herd running away from that spot.”
“They were freaked out, they were running away. They were panicky,” the other witness added.
