Physicist suggests looking for “white holes” instead of black ones

Physicist Carlo Rovelli says people should look for white holes, which are the opposite of black holes. “A white hole is a hole in the sky from which things can come out but nothing can enter,” explains physicist Carlo Rovelli who has urged scientists to look for them, reports dailystar.co.uk.

A black hole is a mysterious cavity in space into which matter enters but cannot exit. However, Carlo Rovelli, 67, of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Ontario, Canada, argues that a white hole is the opposite of this phenomenon. Matter can leave the white hole, but nothing has access to its interior.

Rovelli suggests that white holes arise from the collapse of black holes – the remnants of dying stars. Under the influence of their own mass, they are compressed to such an extent that a quantum leap occurs and they turn into a new entity.

“A black hole is a hole in the sky where things can enter but not come out,” said Carlo. “A white hole is a hole in the sky from which things can come out but nothing can enter.”

According to Carlo’s theory a black hole that has transformed into a white one weakly emits everything it has sucked up. From the outside it is tiny – the mass of a hair and invisible to the naked eye.

But inside it is vast warping the fields of space and time like a real-life Tardis as it constantly glides through the universe.

“About one of them passes through your room every year,” the scientist adds. He believes this amazing phenomenon may hold the key to another physics mystery: the origin of dark matter.

“This dark matter might be made up, perhaps in part, of billion upon billion of these tiny, delicate white holes that reverse the time of black holes, and float lightly throughout the universe, like dragonflies,” he said.

“There are a couple of groups that are already thinking about how to detect these things, how to make a machine that clicks when one flies by.

“It’s hard. But I don’t think it’s impossible. These developments are taking place at an incredibly fast pace. I have hope that before I die somebody will be able to claim to have detected these things.”
