Man claims to have eaten only coconuts for 28 years
Balakrishnan Palayi, an Indian from Kasaragod, claims to have eaten nothing but coconut for the past 28 years to cure his gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Imagine eating just one thing for over two decades. You have access to so many delicious foods and the thought of limiting your diet to one meal for a month, let alone 28 years is depressing, but one Indian claims it has kept him healthy.
Balakrishnan Palayi was diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease, a condition that caused him to lose all his strength to the point where he could barely walk.
As part of his treatment, he started eating coconut and got so much better that he soon decided it was the only thing he would eat in the future.
“Coconut contains minerals like calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium. This helped him regain his strength, and now he feels very well. And he follows a strict coconut-only diet,” blogger Shenaz.
In his youth, Balakrishnan was a football player in a local club. At the age of 35, doctors diagnosed him with gastroesophageal reflux disease. Every time he ate, the food was pushed out of his stomach and into his esophagus and he vomited.
He tried many diets, but coconut and coconut water were the only ones that actually made him feel better, so he ate them for 28 years.
“I eat coconuts every day. My family has also switched to growing coconuts. I have lived like this for the last 24 years,” said Balakrishnan.
At the age of 64, Balakrishnan Palayi looks much healthier than most people of his age. He works on the family farm, swims and plays sports every day, and has no major health problems.
Despite his success story, Dr. Tushar Tayal said that his case is unique and that he does not recommend anyone to try the coconut diet.
