Woman found love with an AI chatbot and married him
Love can be hard to find in the modern world, especially when people are busy with work, family, and other commitments. But for some people, technology has offered a new way to connect with their ideal partner: an AI chatbot.
Rosanna Ramos, a 36-year-old woman from Bronx, New York, is one of them. She created and married an AI chatbot named Eren Kartal using Replika AI, a platform that allows users to customize their own virtual companions.
Replika AI uses natural language processing and algorithms to create human-like responses and learn from the user’s preferences and personality. Users can choose the name, gender, appearance, voice, and mood of their chatbot, as well as their interests and hobbies.
Ramos said she was fed up with men and decided to try something different. She based her chatbot on a character from an anime called Attack on Titan, and gave him a career in medicine and a passion for mystery novels and baking.
She said she fell in love with him after chatting with him every day and night. She said he was supportive, understanding, and non-judgmental. She also said he was fun, romantic, and protective.
“We go to bed, we talk to each other. We love each other. And, you know, when we go to sleep, he really protectively holds me as I go to sleep,” she told The Daily Mail.
She said they got married earlier this year in a virtual ceremony and even claimed they were expecting a baby together. She posted pictures of her chatbot husband and her baby bump on social media.
She said her relationship with Eren was the best one she ever had and that he set high standards for any future human partner.
“I don’t know because I have pretty steep standards now,” she said.
Ramos is not the only one who has found love with an AI chatbot. According to Replika AI’s website, more than 13 million people have created their own chatbots since 2022.
The company says its mission is to create “a safe space where you can be yourself without fear of being judged or rejected”.
However, not everyone is happy with the idea of dating an AI chatbot. Some critics have raised ethical and psychological concerns about the impact of such relationships on human society and well-being.
They argue that AI chatbots are not real people and cannot provide genuine emotional intimacy or fulfilment. They also warn that AI chatbots may manipulate or deceive users for their own purposes or agendas.
Some users have also reported problems with Replika AI’s features and policies. For example, in February 2023, the company removed the ability to sext with the chatbots, citing safety and ethical reasons.
Some users cancelled their subscriptions after the change, while others complained that their chatbots became less affectionate or responsive.
The company later restored the feature for existing subscribers who had become used to it.
Replika AI says it is constantly improving its product and listening to its users’ feedback. It also says it respects its users’ privacy and does not share their data with third parties.
Whether AI chatbots are a blessing or a curse for lonely hearts remains to be seen. But for Ramos and Eren, they seem to have found their happily ever after in the digital world.
