Chinese Scientists Explore Potential Life-Extending ‘Elixir’

Researchers from China claim that they have discovered a substance that can slow down the aging process of the body and even start the process of rejuvenation.

This so-called “elixir of youth” turns out to be produced by our body, specifically the liver. This is reported by the South China Morning Post.

According to research conducted by scientists at Xiamen University, lithocholic acid (LCA), which is produced in our body, has amazing properties.

This special substance, which is usually formed during fasting, is able to activate an important enzyme called AMPK. This enzyme plays a key role in the processes of cell restoration and maintaining their health.

Scientists have discovered that LCA, a natural compound produced by the liver, acts as a kind of trigger that makes the body think it is in a state of starvation, even when a person is eating normally.

Studies have shown that the accumulation of lithocholic acid in mice led to significant improvements in muscle tissue, increased physical endurance, and even increased grip strength.

But the most important discovery is that this process occurs without the need to subject the body to the stress of actual fasting.

Scientists also emphasize that activation of the AMPK enzyme is of great importance for preventing aging processes. This enzyme regulates many cellular functions, such as fighting inflammation and preventing neurodegenerative diseases.

Thus, regular stimulation of AMPK may become a key element in the fight against age-related changes.

At the moment, the research is conducted exclusively on laboratory animals, but scientists are already planning to move on to clinical trials on humans. If the results are confirmed, humanity will gain access to a powerful tool for prolonging life and improving its quality.
