“Research has convinced me that there’s afterlife”
NDE Research Foundation founder Dr. Geoffrey Long has stated that he undeniably believes in the existence of an afterlife after studying over 5,000 near-death experiences (NDEs).
Jeffrey Long is an American author and researcher into the phenomenon of near-death experiences (NDEs). A physician by training, Long practices radiation oncology at a hospital in Louisiana.
Long is the author of Evidence of the Afterlife: The Science of Near-Death Experiences, which appeared on The New York Times Best Seller list. In 1998, he founded the Near Death Experience Research Foundation, which is concerned with documenting and researching NDEs.
Dr. Long defines near-death experiences as the conscious experience of people who are comatose or nearly dead, but who retain their perception and ability to interact with the world around them.
In his work, he identified several general patterns in near-death experiences. One is that many NDE survivors report going out of their body and observing events around them.
“No two NDEs are the same. But as I studied thousands of them, I saw a consistent pattern of events emerging in a predictable order. About 45% of people who have an NDE report an out-of-body experience,” says Dr. Geoffrey Long.
“When this happens, their consciousness separates from their physical body, usually hovering above the body. The person can see and hear what’s happening around them, which usually includes frantic attempts to revive them. ”
For example, Dr. Long describes the case of a woman who passed out while riding, but claimed that her mind traveled with the horse, and then accurately described the events that took place in the barn, although her physical body was not there.
“Her body stayed on the trail while her consciousness traveled with her horse as he galloped back to the barn. Later, she was able to describe exactly what happened at the barn because she had seen it despite her body not being there. Others who hadn’t spoken to her confirmed her account.”
Some people have also spoken of being transported to another realm or going through a bright tunnel with bright light. In addition, some claimed to have met with deceased loved ones, while others noted that their lives “flashed before their eyes.”
“After the out-of-body experience, people say they’re transported into another realm. Many pass through a tunnel and experience a bright light,” he says.
“Then, they’re greeted by deceased loved ones, including pets, who are in the prime of their lives. Most people report an overwhelming sense of love and peace. They feel like this other realm is their real home.”
While many of these experiences may seem like Hollywood movie stereotypes, Dr. Long notes that near-death experiences have also been described by children who may not yet have known about such scenes. But there is still no scientific explanation for these phenomena.
Dr. Long says he has read a lot of research on the brain and considered all possible scientific explanations for NDEs, but none of them can fully explain these phenomena.
“I’m a medical doctor. I’ve read brain research and considered every possible explanation for NDEs. The bottom line is that none of them hold water. There isn’t even a remotely plausible physical explanation for this phenomenon,” Long says.
He confidently states that in the face of irrefutable evidence, he came to the conclusion that life after death certainly exists.
