‘Ghostbusters’ Animated Series Coming To Netflix

Sony Pictures posted a hint on X (formerly Twitter): “There’s something strange in the neighborhood… Our supernatural comedy series, based on Ghostbusters, is coming soon to Netflix.”
This isn’t the first time the ‘Ghostbusters’ franchise has ventured into animation. Fans may remember ‘The Real Ghostbusters’ from the 1980s and ‘Extreme Ghostbusters’ from the 1990s.
The new series will have notable executive producers: Jason Reitman, director of ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’, and Gil Kenan, director of ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’. In a recent interview, Jason mentioned that the series will “navigate an unexplored era and decade of Ghostbusters canon.” This has led to speculation that it might cover the three decades between ‘Ghostbusters II’ and ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’.
We don’t know much about this period other than what we learn in ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’, that the business thrived for a while before shutting down. Egon Spengler took equipment from the headquarters to tackle the prophesied return of Gozer, leading him to Summerville, the setting of ‘Afterlife’ where he ultimately met his demise.
We also know that Ray Stantz continued running his occult bookshop, and Winston Zeddemore became a successful businessman.
We don’t yet know the exact release date for the series on Netflix, but this “coming soon” tease from Sony Pictures Animation, after the project was announced two years ago, suggests that we could be getting close to its premiere.
